After several days of rain… Wednesday finally will see the Hudson Valley return to sunshine…
Clouds should mix with a fair amount of sunshine for our Wednesday… with the most sunshine seen in our northern areas, while the southern areas may struggle to clear out the clouds. Even so… after the days we’ve just experienced… Wednesday is looking like winner. Our afternoon highs should crack the 70 degree mark…
Thursday and Friday don’t look half bad either… but for the complete forecast details… please check out the 5 day forecast:
HVW 5 Day Forecast
We’ve been well below average for 2015 in the rainfall department. Prior to this weekend, most of the Hudson Valley was running just a little more than 50% of normal. But after a few days of rain… parts of the Hudson Valley took a significant bite out of that deficit, while other areas saw some minor relief.
We’ve had numerous requests for rainfall totals from fans… and unfortunately the NWS data over the 3 day period is extremely lacking. But HVW has your back, and we spent hours going through weather station data… and manually compiled the recorded rainfall amounts over the Sunday thru Tuesday time period. We combined those totals with a NWS experimental graphic of the Hudson Valley… for the graphic below. (Please keep in mind, these are not ‘official’ totals, but they are the product of electronic personal weather stations, and the data is quite reliable).
The further south you went, the higher the rainfall totals. Port Jervis came in as the big winner… with over 4 inches of rain! Monroe and Warwick weren’t far behind with over 3 inches of rain. In general… the Hudson Valley saw an average of 1.50″ to 3.00″ of rain since early Sunday morning. Keep in mind that while the highest city total was Port Jervis… you can see on the map, that there were some local amounts that pushed over 5 inches. We were unable to get data from the Nyack area… but it looks like southeast Rockland County might have been the big winners.
On that note… we are exhausted, and are calling it a night. But we really wanted to put this data together for everyone, because everyone has been very curious. We hope you find it useful and interesting… but more than that, we hope you have an outstanding Wednesday.
