First off… a quick look at the snowfall totals from Monday, and the almanac from Tuesday…
It’s been an interesting couple of days (for me… well, even more interesting)… but just take a quick look at the almanac. After hearing snow lovers moan and groan about how much of a bust this winter was… we’re nearly 20 inches above average now, so we probably won’t hear that complaint again. February has been brutally cold after the first 10 days… a full 8 degrees below average… and as you’re about to see, it’s not going to get any better… any time soon.
Alberta Clipper Light Snow
Our next chance for snow comes on Thursday, as a weak Alberta Clipper system will touch off some very light snows across the Hudson Valley and the northeast.
It’s not a major event, but the storm will intensify once it reaches the coast. However, the Hudson Valley will escape this time, as the development occurs too late for the HV, and the storm will exit out to sea. The impacts in the HV, will be limited to the actual clipper system… which could still cause some slick spots, with a general dusting to 3 inches possible, we’ll have updates on the details as we get closer. For now… the threat for light snow begins late Wednesday night, and last thru much of Thursday. Another threat is possible for Saturday afternoon… as another clipper tries to redevelop off the coast. We’re watching this storm closely… and will let you know if the threat increases.
Brutal Cold on the Way…
Just some absolutely brutal cold air is on the way. So cold… that when all said and done… this cold outbreak will likely be worse than the “Polar Vortex” outbreak of last winter. Alex has been prepping you for what’s coming… I’m just here to reinforce the idea.
The best way to do that… is just some images. So here are the GFS computer model projected highs for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
These are only computer projections, and not an actual forecast… but afternoon temps like these… you don’t see every day. What’s not shown… are the wind chills. The wind chill on Friday and Sunday look absolutely horrendous (0° to -30°)… so plan for extremely uncomfortable… if not dangerous conditions this coming weekend.
Well… I missed HVW and decided to come on here and do what I love. And… I’ve paid the price. The Weather Peanut woke up at 12:30am and was hungry… now it’s nearly 2:30am and I need to be up in 4 hours to take the Weather Munchkin to school. Stupid me. But I just couldn’t resist. Everyone is doing great… just all VERY VERY tired. Thank you all SO much for the wonderful comments… they mean so much to me. But enough chatter…
