Wednesday Night: Mainly clear and cool. Low in the low to mid 50s.

An active afternoon on Tuesday… as showers and thunderstorms impacted parts of the Hudson Valley. Parts of northern Ulster, northern Dutchess, Columbia and Greene counties saw some potent thunderstorms push through, dropping locally as much as 2 inches of rain in places. Other parts of the region (such as my house in SW Ulster county) saw just a few rain drops.
On Wednesday, we’ll see the cold front sink thru the Hudson Valley during the morning… and that should help to spare much of the area from any showers and thunderstorms. Even so, we can’t completely rule the threat out… so one or two locations could see a brief afternoon shower or thundershower. The difference will be noticeable quickly on Wednesday… as the humidity will be noticeably lower than Tuesday. Temperatures will struggle to reach 80°… as yet another cool, dry, Canadian air mass filters into the Hudson Valley. This summer has been chock full of them, as every time the region warms up… it seems like another cold front plows thru, and shifts the flow back out of the northwest.
This pattern will be locked in for the next several days, as high pressure will build into the east, and hold on into the weekend. If you like comfortable humidity, seasonable temperatures, and lots of sunshine… then you’re in luck for the next few days. Those of you looking for summer heat and beach weather… the wait continues.
On that note… I’m wrapping up my evening post. This does publish on HVW at 6am… but I am NOT a morning person. So I do all my work the night before. About half way through this post, the Weather Munchkin woke up screaming from a little nightmare. When I got her calmed down, she was wide awake and said to me, “I fell down”. But she hadn’t moved from her bed, so the poor kid must have had a dream where she fell off something or down the stairs. Then she said to me, “I need to be careful.”… which is a product of an overly protective Daddy who whenever she starts jumping on the bed or acting careless… quickly reminds her that she needs to be more careful. But within 5 minutes, she was comfortably back to sleep… so all is well once again. However… I’m wiped out, so I’m calling it a night.
Have a great Wednesday everyone…
