Some much needed rainfall across the Hudson Valley on Monday, as a strong frontal disturbance pushed thru… dropping anywhere from 0.50″ to 1.00″ on average. It was still quite a cold day… only reaching into the mid 40s across the region. But that cold won’t hold a candle to what Tuesday has to offer.
The wind will howl on Tuesday, as the first truly arctic air mass plunges into our area. The temperatures on the temperature map above will be a mirage… as the real feel temps (wind chill) will be in the mid teens for most of the day. A day that would be below normal in mid January, headed directly at us for Tuesday. If that’s not cold enough for you… just check out the lows for Tuesday night. Again, those numbers don’t tell the true story… because the wind will still be gusting thru the night… giving us wind chills in the single digits! Yikes.
Wednesday looks very cold as well… but the winds might be a bit calmer, giving us a bit of a break on the wind chill. We likely hover around freezing for a high… which is roughly 20 degrees below normal. Thursday and Friday are also quite cold… with afternoon highs in the 30s, and lows in the low to mid 20s.
But let’s end on a positive note, shall we? This final image is the GFS computer model for a week from now (next Monday). While the details may certainly change… the concept is solid. That concept is that a warm up is coming next week. How long it lasts is still uncertain, as is exactly how warm it gets…
Bundle up and stay warm Hudson Valley!
