(Updated at 10:00am Tuesday)
Clouds have advanced in on the Hudson Valley earlier than expected… and the scattered showers are right on our doorstep. As of Monday night (last night), it appeared that the showers would hold off until tonight… that no longer appears to be the case.
The western half of the Hudson Valley will begin to see scattered showers enter the region… a few could even reach east of the Hudson River. Showers should be mainly light, and scattered in nature… but there are some heavier downpours embedded in this cluster.
The entire Hudson Valley should remain cloudy for much of the day… with the threat of scattered showers lasting for much of the day as well. This will also serve to hold down temps just a bit, and instead of temps in the low 80s… don’t be surprised if temps hold in the upper 60s to mid 70s for much of the day.
This was an incredibly close call with the forecast… how close? Look at this satellite image:
This line of showers is about 50 to 100 miles east of the forecasted position… so the mostly sunny skies just to our east, in Connecticut, were expected to be over the Hudson Valley to start the day. As a result, this change in position certainly has implications for our weather today. A rather gray morning, maybe a break or two of sun is possible after lunch… but clouds and the threat of showers will be the story for today. Have a great day!

Tuesday looks to start much the same way that Monday ended… with a fair amount of sunshine, filtered through some high clouds. As we move into the afternoon… we’ll see some clouds mixing in from our west…
The clouds moving in from the west are associated with a disturbance that will spin thru western NY state on Tuesday. It will touch off scattered showers and thunderstorms, but remain primarily off to our west…
As it looks now… showers and thunderstorms should hold off until after sunset on Tuesday. By Tuesday night, parts of the Hudson Valley could see periods of scattered showers, even a rumble or two of thunder. The cluster of showers and storms is not expected to be well organized, but still has the potential to scatter some rainfall, so we’ll monitor it as the day progresses.
In terms of temperatures on Tuesday… it’s another winner. Temps should be right near normal for this time of year, in the low 80s…
