Some much needed rain is on the way to the Hudson Valley for Tuesday… and it gets off to an early start!
A storm system pushing thru southern Canada will drag a frontal boundary thru the Hudson Valley early on Tuesday. Along that boundary, widespread areas of rain and thunderstorms will materialize. The rain could fall heavy at times during the morning… as you can see in this simulated radar for 8am (above). The morning commute looks especially tricky on Tuesday, as the combination of wet roads and heavy rainfall rates could make for slick roads and low visibility at times. Remember to leave a little extra time if possible.
The rain continues thru the morning but begins to taper off to showers as we approach mid day.
Skies will remain mainly cloudy… and things will remain unsettled. Scattered showers and storms will continue to be a threat thru the afternoon, as the afternoon instability in the atmosphere causes a few showers and storms to flare up. This can be seen in the futurecast for 6pm…
The humidity and heating of the day will simply mean that we’ll have to keep an eye on the radar during the afternoon. Storms should be rather scattered and few in number… but there is a level of unpredictability with the situation… so just plan for the potential. Afternoon highs on Tuesday will try to reach 80°… so while rather humid, the clouds will hold the temps down just a bit.
Total rainfall amounts are still expected to be (in general) on the order of an inch or so. This takes into account, that some areas will see prolonged downpours, and could see well over an inch… while some areas will be spared the heavier rain, and may see closer to a half inch of rain…
Wednesday we’ll see the flow shift out of the northwest… that means lower humidity, and cooler temps (not much cooler though). Clouds will hang tough, as an upper level disturbance rotates thru the northeast. It’s looking like Wednesday is an improvement for sure… but probably not the nicest of days.

Have a great Tuesday… and stay dry Hudson Valley!
