A cold start across the Hudson Valley, as most of the area had the coldest night so far this season. One of the exceptions being my house, where the low was 34°. A light breeze and a fair amount of clouds combined to keep many areas about 5° warmer than what was forecasted. I’m sure most people won’t lose any sleep over that.
Detailed Short-Range Forecast
A weak storm system tracks off the east coast, and begins to strengthen into a nor’easter. At the beginning on Tuesday, the storm is rather weak and disorganized, so the showers and drizzle should be rather light and scattered. Expect lots of clouds, and just a gray, damp day across the Hudson Valley. Tuesday night, the nor’easter is getting a little more organized… and the showers should become more numerous and steadier as the night wears on.
Wednesday, you can see on this GFS computer model forecast map, that the rain showers across the Hudson Valley (circled) are more numerous and a bit steadier. Periods of on and off showers… some briefly heavy… can be expected thru the day. It’s a rather soggy day on Wednesday… likely wetter than Tuesday… and it’s also turning windy, as the nor’easter strengthens. You can use the interactive radar to track the rain, or follow HVW on Facebook for updates over the coming days. The storm pulls away Thursday night into Friday… but unsettled conditions could last all the way into Friday.
Normally, I ramble a bit at the end of the evening update… but we’re crunching the final data and organizing the format of the Winter Outlook, so I’m going to skip the pleasantries for a couple days until that’s done. We know many of you have been asking about the winter outlook… so we want to get you the details ASAP. So while Alex and I get back to work… we hope your Monday was good, and that your Tuesday is even better!
