Ok… I have to make this a quick one, I’ve already fallen asleep 2 times tonight. Those of you who know me from my “previous life”, know that I have a history of falling asleep doing my work… because I tend to operate at very late hours. Tonight is no exception, as the long day has finally caught up with me. So, while I continue my battle with Mr. Sandman, let’s take a look at the weather.
The past 24 hours have seen some wild weather across the Hudson Valley. In the pre-dawn hours Monday, an area of strong thunderstorms pushed into Rockland, Putnam and Westchester counties. It dropped up to around 0.50″ of rain, but many fans were awakened by the frequent flashes of lightning, and the constant rolling thunder. But Columbia County saw the worst of it, as a severe thunderstorm cell pushed thru on Monday afternoon, leaving numerous storm reports of down trees and power lines in it’s wake.
Finally… some quiet weather! The upper level low pressure has moved out of our area, and taken the cold front with it. Now we have a much cooler, drier, air mass settling in across the region. We’re looking at high temps that are about 5° cooler than average for this time of year. Not “cold” by any stretch… but you should feel the difference in the air… especially when you factor in the very low humidity. That means very comfortable conditions for this time of year. At a point in the season where we could easily be sweltering under a dome of heat and humidity… we’re looking at a good deal of sun, low humidity, and afternoon highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.
This pattern should last several days, until by Thursday and Friday we may see a slight increase in the humidity again… which could allow for one or two isolated afternoon thunderstorms. The data has been very “wishy washy” (yes… that is the technical term), so it’s something we’ll watch as we move thru the week.
That’s a wrap for tonight… (or at this point I should say “this morning”). I plan on introducing you to the “Weather Munchkin” either Tuesday night or Wednesday. I’ve got a couple of cool pics to share, but we’ve had so much to discuss, there hasn’t been time. With a few slow days coming in… maybe she can make an appearance. On that note, have a great Tuesday everyone!
