Thursday: Sunshine mixed with clouds, and chilly. High in the upper 30s to low 40s.
Thursday Night: A few clouds. Low in the mid 20s.
Friday: Increasing clouds with a few showers possible late in the day. High in the upper 30s to low 40s. Chance of rain 40%.
The wintry mix Tuesday night didn’t cause many problems across the Hudson Valley, thanks to the limited moisture that fell across the region… combined with the temps being near or above freezing. Wednesday didn’t warm up as much as expected, largely due to the fog trapping the cold air at the surface for much of the day.
Thursday we’ll see the sun return, albeit along with a bit of a chill. Afternoon highs will struggle to reach 40°, and a light NW wind will make it feel slightly colder. Friday starts out nice enough… but the clouds will roll in as the day wears on, and a shower or two is possible as sunset approaches. That leads to a potentially wet Friday night and Saturday…
It looks like moisture spreads into the Hudson Valley Friday night, and we see periods of light rain right thru Saturday. We’ll have to watch for the chance that some sleet or freezing rain could mix in Friday night… but for the most part (right now at least), temps should be above freezing. Saturday is looking rather damp, but we could surely use the rain.
Then the big question is, “what happens next??” The GFS model takes the storm harmlessly out to sea… because it believes the jet stream will be more zonal (west to east). The European model (ECMWF model), sees it differently. The European model wants to dig a pretty sizeable trough (dip in the jet stream) into the east. This could trap the low pressure system, and cause it to impact us Monday and Tuesday. Depending on temperatures… this could be a snow event… so we’re watching it very close at the moment. Many signs point toward the idea of the European model… but lets just take it one day at a time for the moment, and wait for some more data before we sound the alarm on this. Just something to keep in the back of your mind for now. We’ll have more updates on this in the Friday Outlook.
Time is flying by. It’s early December already… how did that happen? All I know, is that I’m quickly running out of time to shop for the Weather Munchkin for Christmas. Lucky for me, my awesome wife has already taken care of most of that… so I just have a few odds and ends to wrap up. So while I call it a night, just a quick thank you… Thank you so, SO much for all the support you’ve shown HVW. Alex and I continue to be floored by all the positive feedback. We’ll make sure HVW keeps you a step ahead of the game this winter. Have a great Thursday, everyone!
