After a brutally long, bitter, and in some ways record breaking winter… summer is coming to the rescue. Through most of the winter, many fans were begging and pleading for summer. Those people need to cancel their plans… clear out your calendar… because YOUR weekend is on the way.
The average high temperatures for the first week of May in the city of Poughkeepsie is right around 70°. Thursday will feel more like mid June… as temperatures climb near 80° with low humidity and a mostly sunny sky. In all honesty, Thursday looks picture perfect… a gorgeous spring day. Anyone with outdoor plans should be quite pleased!
But as beautiful as Thursday looks… the string of weather we have lined up for Friday, Saturday and Sunday… are about as good as you can possibly draw up for Mother’s Day weekend. The only complaint that some will have… is that it’s actually a few degrees too hot (it all depends on your preference).
A tremendous ridge of high pressure will take up residence along the east coast… and generate a SW flow into the northeast. Sunshine will be the dominant weather feature for Friday and Saturday… and while a few more clouds could show up for Mother’s Day… the entire weekend looks dry and warm. Here are the forecasted high temperatures for Friday thru Sunday across the Hudson Valley.
Now… while that may just look like the same image 3 times in a row… they are the projected highs thru the weekend. These temps are between 10° and 15° above average for this time of year, and are more typical of late June or early July. So those of you who have been begging for heat, pleading for warmth… your wishes are about to be granted.
For complete forecast details… please check out the HVW 5 Day Forecast… but it’s quickly looking like the best 3 day run of weather in a very long time. The fact that it’s on a weekend is a bonus… and that it’s Mother’s Day weekend is like hitting the jackpot.
The very warm weather should last into the beginning of next week, before we see temperatures return to normals for this time of year. But until then… get your beach blankets ready… summer is on the way!
Have a great Thursday, Hudson Valley!
