Thursday: Periods of rain, heavy at times, with embedded thunderstorms possible. Rain tapering off to scattered showers around mid day. High in the upper 60s to low 70s. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall over 1 inch possible.
Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy with a spotty shower possible… clearing skies after midnight. Low in the low 50s. Chance of rain 40%.
Friday: Partly cloudy and warm. High in the upper 60s to low 70s.
The average high temperature for Wednesday was 63°. Well… the actual low temperature in Poughkeepsie on Wednesday was 69°! That’s right… the low temperature on Wednesday was 6 degrees warmer than the normal high temperature! When you factor in a high temperature of 79°, the day as a whole was a whopping +23° compared to average! So, if you thought Wednesday was unseasonably warm… it was.
Thursday will get off to a very soggy start. As the cold front approaches the Hudson Valley, it should allow for rainfall to enhance and intensify over our area between the 3am and 9am hours. The image above represents a simulated radar for 12pm… showing the bulk of the rain exiting the area at that time, and leaving a few scattered showers in it’s wake. Mostly cloudy skies and a few scattered showers look likely for Thursday afternoon. When all is said and done, we’re still expecting 0.75″ to 1.50″ of rain on average across the Hudson Valley.
By Friday, we can expect the mild temperatures to continue, as we should get into the upper 60s to low 70s under partly cloudy skies. A very nice day for mid October. But then a very strong cold front approaches on Saturday. That should give us increasing clouds, even some scattered showers in the afternoon (but temps still near normal in the mid 60s). Sunday looks cold and blustery, as some truly Canadian air is poised to invade. We may struggle just to get into the 50s for highs… yes, you’re reading that right… barely 50 degrees on Sunday. That sets the stage for what appears to be the end of the growing season on Sunday night in the form of a widespread frost and possibly hard freeze. We’ll take a closer look at that Thursday night or Friday… but major changes on the way.
Somehow… I’ve got another long update, so I’m just going to sign off for tonight. We’ve got some much needed rainfall to start our Thursday, just use extra caution as you travel about on the wet roads. The combination of wet roads and falling leaves can cause major problems. Otherwise… we hope you have a wonderful Thursday!
