Happy New Year!
We hope you had a safe and Happy New Year… and let us officially welcome you to 2015! We closed out 2014 with a cold day, one of the few below average days we saw in December.
Thursday looks blustery and cold… with highs right around the freezing mark. A decent breeze should make it feel like the mid 20s thru out the day, so we’ll kick off 2015 the same frosty way we ended 2014. Friday looks only slightly better in the temperature department. A southwest flow should get temps into the mid and upper 30s, under a mix of clouds and sun. The first half of Saturday looks decent as well, just cloudy and cold. Then things get interesting.
The time line is beginning to unfold a bit. It looks like light snow should begin to enter the Hudson Valley Saturday afternoon between 3pm and 7pm. The snow then could fall steadily for several hours, before mixing with and changing to sleet and freezing rain around midnight. It appears the warm air should overwhelm the storm system shortly after midnight, changing the entire area over to rain. That rain should last until the late morning hours on Sunday, and could fall heavily for a while in the early morning. We’ve got the latest forecast ideas in the HVW 5 day forecast.
Happy New Year Hudson Valley… it’s me, the life of the party. It’s 11:32pm, and I’m celebrating by drinking a beer (singular… about to be plural). I suppose that’s how you know you’re getting old, when NYE isn’t largely different than any other night. But my party is asleep in the other room… the Weather Munchkin. It’s a little hard to be much of a party animal when you’re a parent of a toddler. So while I go get ready to watch Carson Daly and the ball drop… I hope you had a great NYE. We’ll keep you on top of the weekend storm, as the details continue o unfold. Have a great start to 2015!
