11am Radar Snow Update
As this storm pulls away to our south, the moisture that has reached up into the HV has banded together, and created an area of moderate snow near and south of I-84. A surprise snow burst for the southern parts of the area… and a steady light snow shower for the remainder of the HV. This system is moving quickly, and the snow should not last very long. However, where it snows steadily… a dusting to a half inch cannot be ruled out.
Conditions are very cold, so snow will quickly cover the roads and cause slick travel. Please use extreme caution in areas where the snow is falling steadily… as this snow banding was not expected to reach into the HV. Many drivers will be caught off guard and unprepared. We continue to monitor the developing situation.
Please share road conditions and observations in the comments below. Please include location and (if possible) time of post.
Thursday Outlook :
A significant winter storm that impacted the Southeast US… leaving over a half foot of snow in parts of North Carolina and Virginia… is going to stay south and east of the Hudson Valley (circled). The storm will push out to sea, instead of coming up the east coast… good news if you are sick of winter, bad news if you’re a weather junkie.
The snow will push further north and west than originally expect with this system. A dusting to an inch or so is possible all the way up to NYC and along the coastline. But the accumulating snow is expected to stay safely to our south.
However… areas of light snow showers and flurries could pop up as this storm throws moisture back across the east coast, as it departs. Don’t be shocked if you see a snow shower or some flurries… as those are definitely possible. However, we don’t expect any accumulation… maybe a fluke dusting in one or two spots.
Looking toward the end of the week… the name of the game, is the same as it’s been the past 25 days… COLD. Afternoon temps don’t make it to 25°, and night time temps will flirt with (or in some cases dip below) zero.

Just a quick note for those of you who enjoy this section of my posts… and for those of you who are curious about the family and the brand new “Weather Peanut”. We’re all doing GREAT. Just TIRED. My schedule is much more sporadic right now, rather than the ‘routine’ I had developed. So often I’m just getting to the point, and calling it a night. The wife and kids are all doing great… as am I. Hopefully I’ll have some pics for you guys soon… but honestly, I’m valuing my sleep greatly these days… so you’ll understand if I don’t ‘chat’ too much beyond the weather for a bit.
Thank you SO MUCH for all the wonderful well wishes. It’s amazing and awesome to have so many people offer so many kind words. Alex and I are truly lucky to be in the position we are… talk to you guys soon, and stay warm!
