Thursday Night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening… followed by mostly cloudy skies late. Low in the low to mid 60s. Chance of rain 50%.

Stop the presses… Wednesday’s temperatures were above average… by a whopping 2 degrees. Poughkeepsie saw a high temp on Wednesday of 84°, in what was a rather humid day… at least compared to what we’ve become used to this summer. Scattered showers threatened the area a couple times on Wednesday… but almost everyone remained dry.
Thursday is looking a bit unsettled… as a fairly humid southeast flow will pull a good deal of moisture into the mid levels of the atmosphere. While it doesn’t appear that widespread showers are likely… we could see a few scattered showers around the region. It looks like the highest chance for showers and thunderstorms will be late in the afternoon and into the early evening. A cluster of showers and thunderstorms could develop… so it’s worth watching. Friday is looking a bit cloudy… and rather cool. The data is hinting at the idea that clouds keep the temps suppressed into the low and mid 70s for much of the day, but we’ll have to look closer Thursday evening.
Looking ahead toward the weekend… high pressure is poised to build in from Canada once again, and that means a return to low humidity and highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. A heat wave will build over the central US… but it will struggle to advance east, due to the Canadian high pressure over the Northeast. We’ll have to watch to see if some heat can make it’s way into the Hudson Valley next week.
Where does the night go? The clock has struck 1am, and I’m beat (I do my work at night… despite the fact this publishes in the morning). So much to do, and so little time. I’m going to catch some sleep… and dream of some rain, so that I don’t have to water the plants on Thursday. We posted a graphic on the Facebook page Wednesday night, showing the rainfall over the past 10 days. It seems like mother nature is mad at the Hudson Valley. Maybe we can get a little rain in the next 2 days… (I am by no means wishing for rain on anyone’s outdoor plans). We’ll see how things play out. Have a great Thursday!
