Thursday : Sunshine mixed with afternoon clouds. High in the low 70s.
Thursday Night : Clearing skies, calm winds, and cold. Low in the upper 30s to low 40s.
Friday : Partly cloudy and chilly. High in the low to mid 60s.
After a cold start to Wednesday… things recovered nicely, and we saw a fantastic day across the region. Morning lows on Wednesday ranged from 44° in Poughkeepsie, to the upper 30s and low 40s for most of the hill towns. But the afternoon saw lots of sun, and that helped temps rebound up to 72° for a high in Poughkeepsie. That makes Wednesday the 6th straight day with temperatures below average for this time of year.
That trend should continue on Thursday. We’ll get close to average for this time of year… but likely fall a degree or two below the norm. Sunshine kicks off the day, and even some patchy fog is possible. By late morning and early afternoon, we’ll see some more clouds that will be associated with the cold front pushing thru. We’re not expecting any rain or drizzle… but a good deal of clouds can be expected.
Once the front moves thru, skies will clear out, and temperatures will begin to plunge. The timing of the front passage may work in our favor… because the real heart of the cold air won’t reach the Hudson Valley until Friday morning, at which time the daytime heating will push temps back up. The map above paints a pretty good picture… and while we’re still expecting a cold night Thursday night… by Friday morning, our area will likely see upper 30s and low 40s. While just to our north, low and mid 30s could generate the first frost of the season. We’ll be watching this closely, and if any information needs to be shared, we’ll do so.
Friday is quite chilly… with highs only in the low to mid 60s, but from there… things begin to moderate. The flow shifts to more southerly… and over the weekend, we’ll see slightly warmer nights (mid to upper 40s), as well as warmer days (upper 70s). So it looks like a pretty nice weekend may be heading our way.
Time for this guy to get some sleep. The summer recap is finished, and we’ll be sharing that with you in the next day or two. From there, we’re putting the winter outlook together. I only mention it, because I don’t want you guys to think we’ve forgotten about it. Many fans are clamoring for the winter outlook, and we are putting the pieces together as fast as we can. We’ll keep you posted. For now… time to close my eyes, as another long day comes to an end.
Have a great Thursday, Hudson Valley!
