The system that brought us the increased clouds on Saturday has exited. However, the Hudson Valley has been left with widespread low clouds.
Low clouds and patchy drizzle are being very stubborn to exit the region this morning. That’s in large part due to the very calm winds over the Hudson Valley. If you look at the futurecast map above, you’ll notice that once you get west of the valley, the clouds break up… and it’s mostly sunny all the way back to Chicago. However, without any steering currents to push the low clouds out of the valley… we could be stuck with mainly cloudy skies for a good part of the day. The hope is that the clouds will begin to break up during the afternoon… and that we could salvage some breaks of sun before it sets later this afternoon.
The clouds will hold temperatures down as well. To start the day off, we’ve got widespread temperatures in the low to mid 30s. The low clouds will make it difficult for those temperatures to rise too much. So instead of highs that were expected to push toward 50° this afternoon… we could be stuck in the low to mid 40s. Anyone with outdoor plans will need to take this into account, because the day isn’t looking quite as nice as it was originally projected to be. We can cross our fingers that some mid level winds will help break up these low clouds, and get us some sunshine.
Monday looks to see breaks of sunshine finally, but still a good deal of cloudiness as well. Temps on Monday should climb into the upper 40s for highs, in advance of an approaching cold front for Tuesday. Tuesday starts off dry… but turns damp for the afternoon, and periods of rain could last into the night on Tuesday. On Wednesday, some much cooler air begins to push into the Hudson Valley, and by Thursday, highs likely don’t get out of the 30s. As we’ve mentioned many times… a much cooler pattern is coming our way later this coming week… and the pattern looks to lock in, and keep us in the freezer for the foreseeable future.
For now… cross your fingers for some sunshine… and have a great Sunday!
