A Very Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms across the Hudson Valley! We’ve got a hot one on tap for you… so hopefully you’re looking for some summer-like weather.
The heat will be on, as afternoon high temperatures on Sunday likely push into the mid 80s across the area. Add into the equation… that it will be a touch more humid… and Mother’s Day 2015 will probably feel more like Independence Day.
In terms of weather conditions… we’ll start off the day with some areas of patchy dense fog… but that should burn off quickly, leaving us with a good deal of sunshine…
So if you have Mother’s Day plans… you should be in great shape. The weather will cooperate… if not for the fact that it’s a touch too warm for Mother’s Day. Make sure you take that into account… and drink plenty of fluids. It’s only early/mid May… but a warm and muggy day like we should see on Sunday could catch some people off guard. We should see a bit of a breeze, however… so that might help take the edge off the heat.
In terms of rainfall… we know by now, that we are in need of a steady, soaking rain event. Tropical Storm Ana will not be much of a factor for the Hudson Valley, because the jet stream should help guide it off to our southeast… keeping any rainfall far from our area.
We will see a cold front push through the Hudson Valley on Tuesday… but even that appears to have minimal rainfall associated with it. In fact… it’s entirely possible that some parts of the area get into the middle of next week without seeing much (if any) measurable rain. Below is the NAM model rainfall projection for the next 3.5 days… and it’s not very encouraging at all…
If this is even close to accurate… we will be in the middle of May with (maybe) a 0.50″ of rainfall for the month. The May average is 4.41″ in Poughkeepsie… so you don’t have to be a math wiz to know that’s not very good. We’ll see if we can find any rainfall in the longer range… but for now, please use extra caution, as the fire danger will remain quite high.

On that note… I better get my butt to bed. Sunday is Mother’s Day, and I’m taking charge of the girls so that Mommy can have some quiet time. So I better get my sleep while the gettin’ is good. Happy Mother’s Day to all the great Moms out there! Stay cool….
