After a gray but dry morning across the Hudson Valley on Saturday… the afternoon was best described as a chilly soaker. Poughkeepsie hit 70° for a high on Saturday, but as the rain fell during the afternoon, the temps fell as well… into the mid 50s. Rainfall reports as of late Saturday night are showing many parts of the Hudson Valley around 1 inch of rain, with localized totals up to 2 inches of rain.
(Montgomery: 0.95″, Poughkeepsie: 0.91″, West Point: 0.88″)
But as we look forward to Sunday… we don’t expect to get the sunshine that we were hoping for during the afternoon. Previously, the data pointed to breaks of sun and dry conditions for Sunday afternoon. Now… it appears that unsettled conditions will linger through much of the afternoon across the Hudson Valley.
The bulk of the moisture with this system will rotate north of our area by mid day… however, the unsettled southerly flow will allow for low clouds to linger and areas of showers and drizzle to form across the Hudson Valley. If the data is accurate… by noon on Sunday, many parts of the area are still dodging showers and drizzle.
But even by late afternoon… things remain unsettled, and we look mostly cloudy with a few spot showers to contend with…
The low clouds and threat of rain will also serve to hold down the temperatures as well. Where we had previously thought we could climb toward the 80 degree mark… now, it appears that hitting 75° on Sunday would be a victory… because low 70s will likely do it for much of the area…

HVW Mobile App in Development
Finally… if you were on the HVW Facebook page on Saturday morning, you may have seen Alex mention that the HVW App is in development, and scheduled to be rolled out this Fall! For well over a year, fans have been vocal about wanting an HVW App for their mobile device… and we are now very close to having that become a reality!
The App is being developed for iPhone and Android. The details are still being kept under wraps for now… but I can assure you, if the final product is anything close to the plans, the Hudson Valley is in for a major treat. We think that HVW fans will absolutely love some of the interactive features.
But that’s where we need your help! Alex and I have always tried to deliver information in a useful and interesting manner. But as much as we’d like to think we have our fingers on the “pulse of the people”… if we are gonna do this thing, then we might as well do it right!
We want you to tell us what you want to see in an HVW App. Do you want Interactive features allowing you to report weather conditions? Do you want a “chat” functionality? Do you want a million dollars? Ok… well that last one we can’t do, but we want to hear your ideas. Be creative, yet realistic… (we can’t get Al Roker to do forecast videos). We don’t want to spend time focusing on features that aren’t interesting to people… and we don’t want to leave out something that everyone wants.
So if you have a few minutes, please follow this link to a survey. We want to get as much info as possible, so that you can help us create the best weather app that has ever been assembled. Thanks so much… and have a great Sunday!
