Sunday Night: Clear early, increasing clouds late. breezy and cold. Low in the upper 20s to low 30s.

A less than perfect weather day started our November across the Hudson Valley. Poughkeepsie topped out at 49°, as the nor’easter spun up just off the coast. Rain fell to our south and east, but as has been common the past several months, the Hudson Valley mostly missed out. The majority of the area saw only 0.10″ of rain or so. There were some higher elevation snows to speak of. As of late Saturday night, there is an unofficial report of 0.50″ of snow at Windham mountain. Which is a sign that winter isn’t too far off.
Sunday will also be a stark reminder that winter is on it’s way. As the nor’easter pulls away, we’ll see strong NW winds between 15 and 25mph. That will combine with cold Canadian air temperatures in the mid 40s… to generate wind chills that will feel like their in the 30s for much of the day. The only redeeming value will come in the form of sunshine, which won’t make much difference to most of us. Sunday night is a cold one, but strong winds will prevent it from getting as cold as it could… likely in the upper 20s to low 30s. Monday looks warmer, so at least we’ll be moving in the right direction.
The next storm threat appears to be Thursday, as some rain could move in from the southwest. We’ll keep an eye on it as the week progresses, but one thing is for sure… a very active pattern is ahead of us.
Time for me to unplug for a while. Alex and I have been making cell phone service providers sorry they ever instituted unlimited text messaging. Each day we’re constantly watching the weather pattern evolve, and while many of you might find the conversation boring and nerdy… we’re always looking days, weeks, even months down the road… trying to guess how this winter is going to play out. We put out the HVW Winter Outlook last weekend, so if you haven’t checked it out, please do. But so far… the pattern continues to evolve as discussed in the outlook… which could mean some wild weather this winter. Time will tell. Speaking of time… I’m going to take advantage of the extra 1 hour of sleep. Have a great Sunday everyone!!
