Sunday: Early morning clouds and even a spot shower, followed by a mix of clouds and sunshine. Rather humid, with a chance for an isolated afternoon thunderstorm. High in the low 80s. Chance of rain 40%.
Sunday Night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms during the evening, turning partly cloudy, mild and muggy. Low in the low to mid 60s. Chance of rain 50%.
Monday: Partly cloudy and humid. An isolated afternoon thunderstorm possible. High in the low to mid 80s. Chance of rain 40%.
The weather can throw you a lot of surprises, and sometimes those surprises are pleasant ones. The data was really inconsistent about how Saturday morning would play out. As the morning played out, it quickly became clear that the Hudson Valley was going to see much nicer weather than originally advertised. We turned out with a mix of sunshine and clouds… (more sun west of the Hudson River, more clouds to the east) and Poughkeepsie recorded a high temperature of 77°.
Looking toward Sunday, we should start off with a fair amount of clouds… as another area of rain passes by to our southeast. Unlike Saturday morning, this batch of rain appears all but certain to miss the Hudson Valley. By mid to late morning, we should see increasing amounts of sun… and afternoon highs in the low 80s for most of us. A stray afternoon thunderstorm can’t be ruled out… especially in Sullivan and Delaware counties… but much of the area should remain dry Sunday afternoon. A few scattered storms are also possible Sunday evening, before things clear out as Sunday night wears on. Monday looks warm and rather humid… but fairly decent with highs in the low to mid 80s. An afternoon spot thunderstorm is possible… but they will be few and far between.
Looking toward the long range… a rather unsettled week appears ahead. Each day seems likely to run the risk of afternoon thunderstorms. Nothing widespread per say, but scattered afternoon thunderstorms could be a theme this week. Also, no sign of any real heat to speak of. Just glancing at some quick data… and highs range from the upper 70s to mid 80s almost every day. Those of you (and I know there are quite a few) who are hoping for a heat wave at some point in the month of August, will have to wait for a bit… because there is no sign of one in the next 10 days.
Finally… I’m going to close with something unrelated to the weather. I’ve wanted to introduce you to the “Weather Munchkin” for about a week now, and today seems like the right time. I like to talk about what’s going on in my life from time to time… and there is no bigger part of my life than my daughter, so I figure you should meet her. Last week, she turned 3 years old already. I can’t believe how fast time has gone. Those of you parents out there know what I’m talking about. Everyone always tells you to “enjoy every minute, they grow up so quick”… but it goes even faster than you think. I’m just holding on for dear life, trying to enjoy every minute of it. So here’s my Weather Munchkin, and if I have a good story or picture from time to time… I’ll share.
I hope you have a great Sunday… it looks like the weather should cooperate for the most part!
