Saturday was a very busy day across the Hudson Valley. First we started with the heat and humidity… Poughkeepsie saw a high temperature of 92°, making it the 2nd hottest day of 2014. When the humidity was factored in, it felt like 97° at times. Then, later in the day… we saw the thunderstorms. A few thunderstorms went severe in the mid afternoon hours, one cell in Dutchess county produced some large hail as it approached the Connecticut border. Then things quieted down, as we prepared for the “grand finale”. As the cold front pushed thru around sunset, periods of rain and thunderstorms pushed thru the majority of the Hudson Valley, bringing some very welcome rainfall. Much of the area saw between 0.25″ and 0.50″ of rain, with localized higher amounts.
By Sunday morning… things will feel dramatically different. The cold front will have exited the Hudson Valley, and we’ll be left with a NW flow. That means dry air, cooler temps… and much lower humidity. Sunday is shaping up to be a beautiful day… and what better way to “kickoff” the first Sunday of the new NFL season?
Monday’s looking pretty good as well, although if you remember the other day, Alex had a post about a potential tropical threat for this week. That system will likely begin moving up the east coast in the coming days, and while it doesn’t look like it will become a tropical system, it could still impact our weather. We could see some clouds pushing into the Hudson Valley from the south ahead of this system, as it begins to move north on Monday. It’s uncertain exactly how it will play out, so for now, we are watching it… but it’s likely to stay off the coast and out to sea, as an area of rain and thunderstorms, without developing into a tropical system.
Well, it’s been a busy day… and another busy day awaits me on Sunday. Hope your weekend is off to a good start, and hope it gets even better on Sunday!
