A cool, fall-like day across the Hudson Valley to end the work week. Poughkeepsie topped out at 55°, and Montgomery at 53°. That brings the month of October to a close. Here are the final statistics on a warmer, but slightly drier than average October for the city of Poughkeepsie:
Temperature : +4.0° (Highest – 79° on Oct 15th) (Lowest – 30° on Oct 20th)
Precipitation : 3.76″ (84% of normal precipitation – 4.47″)
Saturday looks like a cold and damp day for sure. Clouds will block out the sun throughout the day, and periods of scattered rain showers and drizzle will roll through the area during the day. We’re not expecting a lot of rain, but a persistent flow off the ocean will keep the threat alive though most of the day.
This NAM model simulated radar is a bit aggressive with the showers associated with the coastal storm. But this image represents 12pm Saturday, and shows the bands of rain showers rotating in off the ocean. It’s likely that the steadiest rain is slightly further south and east than this image indicates, but it is a close call. If the NAM model is right, we could see slightly more rain than indicate in the forecast… as well as a chance for some accumulating wet snow in the mountains on Saturday night, as the cold air rushes into the region. We’ll have radar updates on the Facebook page as necessary on Saturday, and you can always follow along on the interactive radar.
Sunday looks blustery and cold, as the storm pulls away. Strong North / Northwest winds will put a chill on the sunshine. Afternoon highs likely struggle into the mid 40s… and the wind chill stands to be in the 30s for a good part of the day. A definite late fall feel in the air.
Trick or Treating with the Weather Munchkin was a great time. She was really wiped out by the time we got out and about… but she had her fun at school today, where she and her friends were dressed up. But here’s a quick snapshot of her dressed up as a princess for the holiday…
And on that note… have a great Saturday! Stay warm… and stay dry.
