Saturday: Sunshine mixed with clouds… a brief isolated shower possible during the morning. High in the upper 70s to near 80°. Chance of rain 30%
Saturday Night: Partly cloudy and cool. Low in the low to mid 50s.
Sunday: Mostly sunny and comfortably warm. High in the low 80s.
A cool, damp day across the region on Friday. Poughkeepsie’s high was 74°… well below the average high temperature of 82°. Clouds dominated the weather story on Friday, and there were even a few showers across the southern parts of the area.
Saturday… we try to put all that behind us. High pressure will filter into the Northeast from Canada, and that will translate into cool temperatures, dry conditions, and comfortable humidity. Sunshine will mix with clouds… leading to an excellent day for heading to the Dutchess County Fair. The weather has been pretty shoddy the past couple days, for fair goers… but the weather coming for this weekend should make everyone quite happy. Sunday should only see an improvement on Saturday’s weather. More sunshine… slightly warmer temperatures… and still, comfortable levels of humidity. All in all… 2 fantastic days of fair weather.
Looking into the start of the coming work week… last week, there was a lot of chatter about a possible “heat wave” for this coming week. While we likely won’t see a true heat wave (3 consecutive days of 90° temperatures)… we do look poised to see warmer weather. We could see 2 or 3 days in a row of mid to upper 80s across the Hudson Valley… starting Monday or Tuesday. Some people were wishing for some true ‘summer time’ weather… and you may get your wish as we move into next week. Something we’ll be watching closely.
Something else we’re watching closely… are the tropics. We’ve got a strong tropical wave moving into the Caribbean, and the National Hurricane Center (NHC) gives the disturbance more than a 50% chance of development. The questions are… how strong does it get, and where does it go?
We’ve placed a star over the current location of the disturbance, and from the computer model spread… you can immediately see, that there is a lot of uncertainty about where this system will track. There are really 2 lines of thought. The first, is that the system could track west, into the Gulf of Mexico. The second, (and more likely option at the moment) is that the system cuts up thru the Bahamas, and from there… could either threaten the east coast of the US, or head out to sea. It’s something we will continue to monitor, and should something change, we will let you know.
Where does the week go? I can’t believe it’s Friday night already, and the weekend is upon us. I’m taking my car in for service early on Saturday, so I should get some sleep while I can. I’m hoping to get over to the Dutchess County Fair at some point this weekend… it’s going to be a great weekend for it. No matter what you’re doing this weekend… I hope you have a great time doing it! Be safe this weekend, and enjoy your Saturday!
