A rather raw weekend across the Hudson Valley has come to a close. Nearly a half inch of rain fell in Poughkeepsie on Saturday (0.44″), and from there… clouds, sprinkles and flurries lingered around the region for the rest of the weekend. In terms of temperatures, we were close to average… but the damp breeze really lent a raw feel to the weather this past weekend.
Now we move into the work week, and we’ll get off to a mild start…
The flow shifts out of the southwest, and even with a good deal of cloudiness, we’ll likely approach the 50° mark. A few rain showers can’t be ruled out… but compared to the weekend’s weather, Monday is looking quite nice.
Monday night into early Tuesday morning, a frontal system will push by to our north. It will drag a cold front thru the Hudson Valley, and touch off some rain showers during the overnight… setting up a wet Tuesday AM commute…
In the wake of the front… we’ll see some dramatic changes for Wednesday…
A cold NW wind will howl and give us temperatures that are roughly 15 to 20 degrees below average for this time of year. While compared to the bitter air we saw this winter… this may not seem too harsh, this is pretty much as cold as you’ll get for this time of year. Some ugly, wintry stuff.
Looking way down the road… this pattern isn’t going anywhere. This is likely the first in what will be a series of cold blasts in the coming 2 weeks. This first one, not delivering any snow… just the cold. The data is conflicting to some degree… but we will begin to see chances for snow beginning late this week. Friday we may see a weak coastal storm develop… but it’s really 50/50 at this point. If it does develop… based on the cold air that will be in place, it would have the potential to drop some snow on the Hudson Valley.
At this point… it’s a very low probability, however it’s worth mentioning because this will likely not be the last time we’re discussing a potential snow threat this month.
Another weekend in the books, and I’m doing well to simply remember what day it is, and what my name is. The Weather Peanut is doing well… but as infants tend to do, she’s sleeping all kinds of weird hours. That means Mommy and Daddy are permanently exhausted. The Weather Munchkin (Peanut’s big sister) is doing great, and being a tremendous big sis’. All in all, I couldn’t be happier.
Thanks for understanding that my priorities are re-focused on my girls at present. Technically, they always are… but I used to have plenty of time to work on HVW. Now, the routine is a bit less…. ‘routine’, and I’m always adjusting. Even when you don’t see me (blog post)… I’m still here working. The HVW 5 Day Forecast and our new 24 hour forecast are always being updated, so you will always have access to the best Hudson Valley forecast around.
On that note… the Weather Munchkin is up and coughing, so Daddy has to go tend to her. You have a great start to the week… and thanks for all your support! You make working on HVW an absolute joy.
