An absolutely beautiful weekend wrapped up Sunday, and despite a fair number of clouds at times, it was hands down the nicest weekend we’ve seen since 2014…
Afternoon highs on Sunday were roughly 10 degrees above average… and the humidity was nice and low. Anyone with outdoor plans was most likely thrilled with our weather.
That trend will continue into the start of the work week…
High pressure is in complete control of the East Coast weather, with a warm SW flow pushing very warm air well into the Hudson Valley. A frontal boundary off to our northwest will push some unsettled weather and rain showers toward the Hudson Valley after dark on Monday, but they will not be very organized… and should be rather scattered.
During the daytime hours… the high pressure should keep most of the clouds off to our west, and give the HV a rather sunny… to partly cloudy day…
Those SW winds will also serve to pump some very warm temperatures across the Hudson Valley…
These temperatures are more typical of Mid to late June… not the beginning of May! So it’s almost an early summer preview across the Hudson Valley. And this pattern looks to hold through next weekend… so don’t be surprised if we see some more summer like warmth for next weekend.
But in terms of Tuesday… the weak frontal boundary will drop into the Hudson Valley, and spread clouds and even some scattered showers into the region. That will help keep temps in the low to mid 70s, and potentially dampen parts of the area with some much needed rain.
Speaking of rain… or lack thereof… as of late Sunday night, The Hudson Valley has a “Fire Weather Watch” in effect through the day on Monday. Don’t be surprised if this gets upgraded to a “Red Flag Warning” on Monday. The impact is the same… high fire danger. We’ll have some gusty SW winds on Monday, and with the dry conditions… fire danger will be very high, so please take care.
Poughkeepsie is nearly 5 inches below average in the precipitation department for 2015… and that is evident on the drought monitor. While nobody is currently seeing drought conditions… if we don’t get some “May showers”… that may change in the coming weeks. Just something to watch.

Not sure how I’m still typing… after this awesome weekend. Had some great family time on the front and back end of the weekend… and spent Saturday night in Albany with my brother and some friends. Watched the lackluster Mayweather/Pacquiao fight. But more importantly, got to really enjoy some good company. So while I’d love to keep chatting… I need some sleep badly, as the weekend goes way too fast.
Have a great start to your week, everyone!!
