Beat that for the Sunday before Memorial Day in May. An incredible day, with low humidity and tons of sunshine. Afternoon highs across the HV were roughly 10 degrees above normal… and after another chilly start, the day as a whole was above average. Our warm month of May is going to finish hot… so while we’re +5.7° so far this month, that number is only going up from here.
That begins on Memorial Day Monday… here’s a look at the forecast afternoon highs…
The temps in the low to mid 80s… combined with slightly higher humidity levels… will make for a very summer-like feel to our Memorial Day. So the “unofficial start of summer”, will feel very aptly named. In terms of sunshine… we won’t see as much sun as Sunday, but after a cloudy start, we should turn out quite nicely…
So while not “perfect”… we’re looking at some excellent weather for our holiday celebration.
Looking ahead… things really begin heating up on Tuesday, as the strong SW flow pulls heat and humidity into the Hudson Valley. Tuesday and Wednesday look very similar… with the best chance for scattered thunderstorms on Wednesday…
So prepare for some heat! Complete forecast details can always be found in the HVW 5 Day Forecast.
Alex and I want to wish you all a very Happy Memorial Day. A very special Thank You to our service men and women! The people of this country… and more specifically the Hudson Valley… would not be able to enjoy the quality of life that we do, if not for your service and protection. The members of our armed forces sacrifice on a daily basis, so that we may go about our lives safely, and without fear. They do such an amazing job… that we don’t even stop to realize how lucky we are on most days. But on this day… let us all take a few minutes to be thankful for all that we have been given. And if you see a member of our military, be sure to thank them for their daily sacrifice. It’s the very least that we can do for them… and seems so insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
So in closing… something special, and personal for me… so bear with me. I was blessed growing up to have 2 Grandfathers who were veterans of the US Navy. I knew them as Grandpa, and what was important to me personally… was not that they served this country, but that they were great Grandpas to me. I never gave it much thought really, and I never really showed my appreciation… even though there were always 2 of the best Grandfathers ever (yes, I’m biased).
So on this Memorial Day, in addition to thanking all our service men and women… I want to personally recognize my Grandfathers.
William E. Potter currently lives in Phoenix, Arizona… and it’s been far too long since I’ve seen him. He served in World War II, and was actually in Tokyo Bay the day that Japan surrendered, a fact that I became aware of only yesterday when my Aunt shared this image (blows my mind).
William C. Conklin lived in Live Oak, Florida until his passing on June 30, 2013. He served in the Korean War from 1951 – 1953. He is a fixture in my childhood memories, from going to baseball games, to fishing, to his big bear hugs.
I couldn’t be more proud of these two men. Happy Memorial Day Everyone!
