As we enter the final week of April, we’ve all but eliminated any signs of warmth from the month. The last week has featured some well below average days… with Sunday being a good example. Poughkeepsie’s high of 62° was close to average, but the frosty morning low of 30° was just a couple degrees shy of the record low. As we kick off the work week… this cool trend looks to continue.
We’ll see clouds roll in during the morning hours, and they will help hold temps right around 60 degrees for a high. Those clouds will have a few breaks of sun… but they will also have a few isolated showers during the latter part of the afternoon…
You can see a few spotty showers are popping up on the simulated radar for Monday afternoon, so don’t be surprised if there are a few sprinkles later in the day. Just something to be aware of… not a washout by any stretch.
Tuesday looks a little better… a good deal of sunshine, and temps should crack the 60 degree mark. Wednesday appears to be the big winner at the moment, with lots of sun to start the day, maybe a few PM clouds… but we could break 70° in the afternoon. That sounds fantastic… but as hard as it may be to believe… that would only be a few degrees above average for this point in the season. The complete details can be found on the HVW 5 Day Forecast.
I’m not quite sure where it went… but the weekend is over. I think I blinked and missed it. The family is doing great, and I spent much of the weekend outside with the Weather Munchkin. Even the Peanut got outside for a little while… but she could care less at this point really. I know I owe you guys some pics of the little ones, so I’ll try to get some up here in the next day or two.
But the real reason for the banter section tonight… is that with 4 consecutive days well below average… some of you may be losing hope. With snow showers across the region on Thursday and Friday, many people are probably wondering if spring will ever arrive. So I will leave you with 2 final thoughts.
First… some questions have flown around about what type of summer we are in for. Will it be a hot summer, or a cool one? Well, a lot of the same features that were in play entering last summer… are still in play now. The ocean patterns in the Pacific are very similar, including the onset of an El Niño. So while you can never be certain… it would be reasonable to expect that this summer is similar in many ways to last summer. That translates into cooler than average temperatures… or maybe better put “not scorching hot”. So we’ll see in the coming months…
And Second… for those winter weary souls who nearly passed out last week at the sight of snow flakes. Here’s a quick look at a computer model projection for the 1st ten days of May.
While not “hot”… the red over the northeast is indicative of temps about 5°F above average over a 10 day period. So we could see a relatively warm start to the month of May… something to give you guys some hope.
On that note… it’s been a LONG weekend… time to get some rest before the work week arrives. Have a great start to your week, Hudson Valley!
