October has been a very warm month in the Hudson Valley. Temps half way through the month are a full 8 degrees above average. So Monday will feel drastically different, as we see some major changes.
Clouds will depart rapidly on Monday, leaving us with partly to mostly sunny skies by late morning. A strong NW wind will be with us through the day… blowing steady at 5 to 10mph, and gusting over 20mph. That breeze will also be ushering in much cooler air into the Hudson Valley. After highs in the mid 70s on Sunday, temps will struggle to crack that 60° mark… the Catskills will be a battle just to get into the mid 50s. So highs on Monday will be roughly 15° to 20° cooler than Sunday. Make sure you grab your jacket on the way out the door on Monday.
* Frost or Hard Freeze Possible Monday Night *
We’ve been covering it for several days, and now… the threat for our 1st frost or hard freeze of the season is finally here…
A strong cold front pushes through the Hudson Valley late Sunday night, and it will usher in some crisp autumn air from Canada. After a chilly, breezy Monday… we should see the stage set for a cold and frosty Monday night. Mainly clear skies will allow for maximum radiational cooling. Our winds out of the NW will be at 5 to 10mph when the sun sets… but should diminish and become calm after midnight. That combination should allow for low temperatures before sunrise on Tuesday to dip into the low and mid 30s… plenty cold enough for areas of frost to develop. If the winds die down quicker, and the cold can sink in for several hours, we could see some locations with a hard freeze.
But either way, anyone with sensitive vegetation should take proper precautions. We are now well into the time of year, where frost is expected to occur. So this shouldn’t cause too many people to be shocked. The reason people might be caught off guard… is because so far, October has been more like September. But changes are coming… and so is winter.
Which in closing… leads us to the Winter Outlook. It’s finally finished… and we’re just formatting and scheduling the release. We’ll have details for you in the next day or two on the release of the outlook. After which, we’ll have plenty of time to talk about it. So we greatly appreciate your patience so far… just a couple more days!
Have a great Monday!
