Monday : Clouds mixed with sunshine, hot and very humid. A few isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible during the afternoon. High in the mid to upper 80s. Heat index (real feel) temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s. Chance of rain 40%.
Monday Night : Variably cloudy and very muggy. Low in the mid to upper 60s.
Tuesday : Hazy, Hot and Humid… with scattered afternoon thunderstorms. High in the upper 80s to near 90°. Chance of rain 60%.
Well, the same day we post about how dry the Hudson Valley has been the past 30 days… we get widespread scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some much needed rain fell across the region Sunday afternoon, and that led to many rain delays for outdoor activities (my fantasy football draft included). There probably weren’t too many complaints, however, as widespread 0.25″ to 0.75″ of rain fell. Poughkeepsie reached a high of 85° before the rain fell… in what was a very humid day all in all.
Labor Day will continue the weather trend from Sunday… warm and steamy. We’ll see highs into the mid 80s for much of the area, and along with the humidity will come the atmospheric instability. At the moment… it looks like we’ll see fewer thunderstorms than what the Hudson Valley saw on Sunday. Everyone will need to keep their guard up for an isolated afternoon thunderstorm… but many of us should stay dry. The humidity really sticks with us Monday night… and temps won’t get much below 70°, so expect a really muggy night. Then on Tuesday… we go for the dreaded “Hazy, Hot & Humid”… and it looks like we’ll really see a lot of instability as well. Temps could hit 90° in the afternoon, and with very thick humidity… that could translate into low and mid 90s ‘real feel’ temps. But the other noticeable feature for Tuesday… is the decent chance for afternoon thunderstorms. We’ll have to see if the odds look as high in the Monday night update… but for now, a line of thunderstorms could develop Tuesday afternoon, similar to what we saw on Sunday.
So… after a LONG day for me, I think I’m going to keep this update a brief one tonight. A wild day at my 2014 fantasy football draft. I’m sure the majority of you could care less about NFL football… let alone fantasy football. But the draft itself is basically one huge party. It’s such a spectacle, that people who aren’t even involved in the draft show up just to enjoy the mess that unfolds. Think of it like this… it’s a bunch of grown men, who take the opportunity to act like teenagers (some of us more so than others). It’s the type of event that your face and stomach become sore from excessive laughing. Once you get past the 4 hour comedy show… I actually had a pretty good draft, and put together a team that I think can win… so we’ll see.
But no matter what you did on Sunday, hopefully you had a great day! With Labor Day on Monday… most of us have a bonus day to really try and take advantage of some late summer weather. So here’s to making Monday even better than Sunday… (but for me, those are pretty big shoes to fill). Happy Labor Day!
