Monday: Scattered morning fog, followed by sunshine mixing with some afternoon clouds. Warm, with comfortable humidity. High in the mid 80s.
Monday Night: A few clouds, some patchy fog late. Low in the mid 50s.
Tuesday: Partly cloudy, slightly more humid, and warmer. High in the mid to upper 80s.
Now that’s more like it! Sunday was a gorgeous day across the Hudson Valley. Once the patchy fog burned off… sunshine was the dominant feature for much of the day… mixing with some afternoon clouds. Poughkeepsie reached a high temperature of 82°… which is spot on for this time of year. Saturday might have left a sour taste in the mouths of some Hudson Valley residents… but if you didn’t appreciate Sunday, then you just don’t enjoy nice weather. Speaking of Sunday, here’s a quick look at the Poughkeepsie statistics as of Sunday, something we’ll try to do on a weekly basis. We’re over 2 degrees below average so far for the month of August, and rainfall is a bit below average for the month and the year as a whole…
Can we keep things going as we begin another work week? It looks like the answer is… yes! We may start off Monday with some patchy fog in the valley locations, but that should burn off by mid morning… and we should be well on our way to another fantastic day! Sunshine will mix with some afternoon clouds, but the humidity should remain at comfortable levels… despite a bit of an increase in the heat. Our flow begins to shift out of the south on Monday, and that will allow for some extra heat to creep into the Hudson Valley, with the bulk of the area seeing mid 80s for highs. Tuesday looks very similar to Monday… just a touch more heat, and a touch more humidity. Afternoon highs likely climbing into the mid and upper 80s for a good chunk of the area… but while the humidity does rise a bit… it looks to remain rather comfortable for the most part.
Looking a bit further… Wednesday looks like the hottest day of the week, with temps approaching 90° in spots. But just as the heat really builds in… a cold front pushes in from Canada, and just as we’ve seen so many times this summer… cooler air forces the heat back out of the Hudson Valley by Thursday. As of Sunday night… the cold front does not look to contain much of a punch in terms of unsettled weather. The biggest impact appears to be a return to cooler, drier air. We’ll keep tabs on it as we move through the week.
I was going to close with an update on Tropical Storm Cristobal, but I just had an idea, and think I might try something different. It’s no threat to the Hudson Valley, that’s for sure. It’s more just something for local weather nerds to track… so you know Alex and I will be watching it.
Well, I never made it to the Dutchess County Fair… I’ll have to ask Alex how it was. I had a great weekend just the same, the Weather Munchkin took the wife and I shopping… or maybe it was the other way around? Either way, we went out for a few hours on Sunday and had lunch and did some shopping. So the most interesting thing I have to report, is that the credit card is in the freezer recovering… because it nearly melted today. But seriously… it was a good weekend, just all too quick… but I think we can all relate to that. Hopefully your weekend was a great one… and you were able to enjoy it. If you worked thru the weekend, you’ve got a couple very nice days coming up… so hopefully you’ve got either Monday or Tuesday off and can take advantage of it. Not me… I’ll be stuck in my windowless office, trying to stay sane. A very busy work week coming up for me… so I suppose I should get some extra sleep. No matter what you’re doing, I hope your Monday gets off on the right foot. Have a great day!
