Merry Christmas Recap
The warm south wind worked it’s magic in the pre-dawn hours on Christmas morning, causing the mercury to surge up to 62° for a high. That incredible warmth fell 1 degree shy of the record of 63° set in 1964. Just take a peek at the almanac for the day, and temperatures were almost twice as warm as they should be for this time of year. Temperatures on Christmas Day across the Hudson Valley were more typical of mid October. Wild Stuff.
A nice ridge of high pressure is pushing from the Ohio Valley to the Mid Atlantic coast, and that will control our weather for the next 2 days…
We’ll see the sunshine on Friday, and likely on Saturday as well! After a streak of nearly 2 full weeks without the sun, it tries to make a comeback. On top of that, temperatures are going to be about 10 degrees above normal. Can’t beat that for late December. Our next storm threat is Sunday… and that looks like a weak disturbance, and some light rain showers. For more details, please check the 5 day forecast.
Snow lovers are seeing their patience tested… as there continue to be no legitimate threats of snow on the horizon. We should see the pattern slowly shift back to a colder… more typical pattern for this time of year. As of this moment… snow does not appear to be part of things. We’ll keep an eye on it.
Merry Christmas! It was a great day of family time for me… but the Weather Munchkin was still feeling crappy, and that just stinks… but what can you do? She had no interest in opening presents this morning, and couldn’t tolerate more than 30 minutes of the holiday party. By late in the day, she felt good enough to open presents, so we still got to enjoy that. It was a great day… even if it didn’t go exactly as we had hoped.
In terms of the weather… the winter weather nut in me looks at the model data, and is depressed. Each and every day, there is arctic air on the models… but it’s always 10 days away, and never gets any closer. I had done posts about the cold coming… and those were clearly pre-mature. This dang southern branch of the jet stream off the Pacific Ocean is overriding the system, and preventing the pattern from changing. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some big changes in the 1st week of January, but we’ll see. Ok, enough thinking out loud for tonight. Have a great day on Friday!
