Summer returned in full swing across the Hudson Valley. Actually… it felt a lot like May did… seeing how summer has yet to start. June’s been a relatively cool month so far… but that has changed quite a bit in the past couple days. But for all the waves of heat and humidity we have had in the past month or so… we have yet to reach the 90° mark in Poughkeepsie in 2015. Thursday was the 5th time this year, that Poughkeepsie’s high temperature was 89°… we just haven’t been able to crack 90° (many areas have broken 90 degrees, but we’re talking about the National Weather Service data).
We’ll take another crack at the 90° mark on Friday…
Hazy… Hot… and Humid will be the story on Friday, as our persistent southwest flow continues on Friday. We’ll see a frontal boundary approaching from the Northwest, but that won’t reach us until Saturday. So that means, for the Hudson Valley on Friday, we can expect heat and humidity, along with the building threat of late day thunderstorms.
During the afternoon hours… (2pm to 6pm) one or two isolated thunderstorms can’t be ruled out, but they will be very few and far between. Once we approach the sunset hours… the risk begins to increase, as a line of showers and storms will push into NW NY state…
You can see on this simulated radar for Friday evening… that showers and thunderstorms advance into the northern half of the Hudson Valley. The push of these showers and storms will be from northwest to southeast… so much of the valley could see showers and storms overnight Friday night.
Fan Request : Saturday Outlook
One of the big questions we’re getting, pertains to Saturday. There’s a race on the Walkway Over the Hudson, and many people have outdoor activities. Things are looking quite a bit clearer as of Thursday night, so here’s a quick glance…
The good news… is that it appears that any steady, widespread rain will have moved south of the Hudson Valley. The bad news… is that clouds and very muggy conditions are likely to be present for the morning hours, as well as one or two isolated showers (even a slight chance of a thundershower). Temperatures are likely to be in the 70s with high humidity levels, so a steamy start looks likely to our Saturday.
The afternoon on Saturday… is a different story. It appears likely, that the front will push the clouds out… south and east of the Hudson Valley… by mid afternoon on Saturday. So those with afternoon outdoor plans, may fare better than those with morning plans. It will still be warm… as temps should climb into the low and mid 80s, so keep that in mind.
Sunday looks decent… not too hot, and rather comfortable… just some clouds mixing with sunshine to contend with.
