** Freezing Rain Advisory In Effect for the Entire Area **
As our Saturday rain maker approaches the Hudson Valley tonight, temperatures at the surface should be near or just below freezing. That sets the stage for a brief period of light freezing rain or freezing drizzle.
As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a Freezing Rain Advisory for the entire Hudson Valley. After midnight, a brief period of light freezing rain is possible, before surface temperatures rise above freezing early Saturday morning. A light glaze of ice is possible on sidewalks and roadways, so use extra caution if you’re traveling near or before sunrise on Saturday.
From early morning and beyond… a plain cold rain is expected across the Hudson Valley. We’ll track this with you later tonight, and early on Saturday. Complete advisories can be found in the scrolling alerts at the top of page.
The warmth of Wednesday has faded… and we’re left with a late winter chill across the Hudson Valley. Thursday’s high of 44° in Poughkeepsie was roughly 15 degrees cooler than Wednesday’s high. So after a spring preview… we were right near average on Thursday.
Friday will look a lot like Thursday… with the exception of the increasing high clouds. We’ll see some clouds on the increase at times… as our next storm system approaches from the southwest.
Well after midnight (2am to 6am), we’ll see rain spread into the Hudson Valley. A few locations could see a very brief period of wet snow or sleet at the onset of the precipitation… but for the most part, this is a plain… cold rain for everyone.
Rain should fall steadiest during the morning hours on Saturday… and begin to taper off during the early afternoon. Scattered showers are possible thru most of the afternoon on Saturday, but the bulk of the rain likely falls during the morning hours.
We’ve got complete forecast details in the HVW 5 Day Forecast. So be sure to check there for the specifics, and a look ahead. Also… we’ve got the next 24 hours broken down for you at the top of this page… just click on the “24hr Forecast” tab which is grayed out on the top right of the radar loop. A great tool to see what’s in store over the next day.
Have a great Friday everyone…
