Friday : Partly cloudy skies. High in the low 70s.
Friday Night : Increasing clouds. Low in the mid 50s.
Saturday : Cloudy with periods of rain beginning early in the morning, tapering off early in the afternoon. High in the upper 60s. Chance of rain 80%.
After 2 cloudy and cool days in a row, Friday will see some changes across the area. The sun should break thru for a partly cloudy sky. A very nice end to the work week considering the weather of the past few days. We didn’t see much in the way of rainfall across the Hudson Valley, with Poughkeepsie seeing a total of 0.14″ of rain, and Montgomery seeing a whopping 0.06″ of rain since Wednesday.
We’ve been looking at Saturday’s weather for several days, and the image above continues to look very similar day after day. A storm system will move into southern Canada Friday night, and by Saturday morning, it will have a cold front trailing across the eastern half of the United States. This front will spread rain showers across the Hudson Valley on Saturday, and give us some much needed rainfall. Outdoor plans on Saturday will likely be affected… especially those in the morning.
As of Thursday night… it appears that the showers will reach our area around sunrise on Saturday. The rain looks showery in nature (on and off periods of light rain). A few of the showers could be briefly heavy. Overall… a general 0.20″ to 0.40″ of rain appears likely (with some locally higher amounts), so that is very welcome. The big question for those with plans… is when does the rain exit the area? For now… it looks as if the rain exits the area from west to east between 12pm and 4pm. Based on all the data we’ve looked at, we’re leaning toward the idea of it ending closer to noon than 4pm… but we’ll get a lot more data to look at between now and Friday night. So for now, expect the possibility that showers could last into mid afternoon.
Sunday looks dry, with some sun and clouds… but breezy and much cooler, with temps struggling into the low and mid 60s. A nice fall day for outdoor activities.
Well, that’s enough data crunching for tonight. My family’s got an outdoor birthday party to attend on Saturday afternoon, so I’ve personally been watching this storm very closely. While I do think that the bulk of the rain I confined to the morning hours… I do think the afternoon is going to leave something to be desired. Ah well, when you’ve had only about 2 inches of rain in 2 months… and the average over that time is close to 8 inches… you can’t complain too much when you finally get some rain. Thanks for reading thru my rambling… and thank you for allowing HVW to be part of your day!! TGIF!
