Friday: Mainly cloudy and cool with scattered showers. High in the low to mid 70s. Chance of rain 40%.
Friday Night: Mostly cloudy early… followed by clearing skies after midnight. Low in the mid to upper 50s.
Saturday: Partly cloudy with low humidity. High in the upper 70s to 80s.
Thursday was a bit of an unsettled day across the Hudson Valley. Poughkeepsie’s high of 79° was close to the average… but the clouds and scattered showers were the weather headline. The sun battled the clouds for most of the day and lost. Factor in the muggy air… and Thursday was a largely forgettable day. Southern parts of Sullivan and Orange counties will not soon forget the day, however… as heavy rain and severe thunderstorms ran thru part of those areas early in the evening. Areas near Port Jervis saw between 1 and 3 inches of rain from those storms… and localized flash flooding.
Looking to Friday… another unsettled and forgettable day awaits. Clouds will likely dominate the weather story, and also help to hold afternoon temperatures down in the middle 70s for much of the region. A few showers can’t be ruled out either, but they’ll be few and far between. Just be aware of the threat for a brief downpour. Friday night, things begin to clear out late, which leads us into the weekend…
Saturday and Sunday are looking quite nice as of this moment. High pressure will sink into the northeast from Canada… and that should shield us from any unsettled weather. A good deal of sun is likely both Saturday and Sunday… with low humidity, and afternoon highs in the upper 70s and low 80s. Those of you with plans to head to the Dutchess County fair, should be in very good shape this weekend.
What a brutal day for me, personally. The nature of my job (not HVW… but the one that pays the bills), causes this time of year to be the worst. 8:30am to 7pm is a long work day… especially when a good part of it features trouble shooting for unhappy individuals. Hopefully Friday is a bit better… but for now, I’m only thinking about sleep. Have a great Friday… TGIF!
