Friday: Mostly sunny skies, with low humidity. High in the upper 70s to near 80°.
Friday Night: A few clouds and cool. Low in the lower 50s.
Saturday: Sunshine mixed with clouds, with a bit of a breeze out of southeast. High near 80°.
A gorgeous Thursday across the Hudson Valley, as brilliant sunshine rained down upon the region. You were hard pressed to find many clouds, and the humidity was right back to the very comfortable levels we’ve become used to this summer. Poughkeepsie reached an afternoon high of 81° on Thursday, which equals the average high temperature for this time of year.
We’re heading into what is shaping up to be another beautiful weekend for much of the area. Friday and Saturday both look outstanding. Friday should see a bit more sunshine than Saturday, but both days will have very comfortable levels of humidity. Afternoon highs both days will range from the upper 70s to low 80s depending on your location… with the Catskills running about 5° to 10° cooler.
The nights are getting cooler across the valley as well. Friday is projected to start off in the upper 40s to low 50s… and Friday night / Saturday morning looks to be in the same range.
Sunday should see the winds shift out of the southwest… and that likely means increased humidity, and warmer temps (low to mid 80s). It also looks like afternoon scattered thunderstorms will be possible as well. That trend is likely to continue right thru Labor Day, and into the beginning of next week. We could even see temps climb into the low 90s by Tuesday. I suppose it only figures that once we pass the “unofficial” end of summer (Labor Day)… that we’ll see some summer weather. So much for the September polar vortex… (at least not in the first half of the month).
So the weather for Labor Day weekend looks great! The only concern is for those headed to the beach. Hurricane Cristobal continues to move out into the Atlantic Ocean, and while it is no threat to the United States, it has generated High Surf Advisories along the coast. The biggest danger is related to rip currents, so if you’re heading to the beach this weekend… be sure to pay close attention to the advisories, and use extra caution.
I got an early start on the post tonight, and I’m going to call it a night. I’ve got a fantasy football draft on Sunday to prepare for, so I better go do my homework on that. I don’t want to embarrass myself like I did last year. So while I go study up… you have a nice night, and a great Friday! TGIF!!
