Current Radar – As you can see light snow continues to fall across the HV (red circle), but the heavier snow is across Southern PA and working towards our area. It appears the conditions will begin to deteriorate quickly after 5pm, these bands will create snowfall rates of an inch or more per hour, which will quickly cause roads to become impassable during the overnight hours.
Observations- Looks like about 2-4 inches has fallen across a good portion of the region at this hour which is right on target with our morning forecast, temperatures have not only failed to reach their forecasted highs but have now begun to drop across the region. It will be quite the battle between arctic air that is currently holding its ground verses warm air pushing inland off the Atlantic from the storm. As some of the stronger bands of convection rotate into the cold air in place we will see a period of very impressive snowfall, and where the snow manages not to mix with sleet is where we can expect the heaviest snowfall accumulations.
